I had a great idea. How about a TV show of WOW? Two series, 8 episodes each. Set in the 19th century just like the novel, with additional material to suit the episodic format. In episode one of series one, the Martians arrive and attack. The following seven episodes are about our hero's experiences. The series ends with the thunder child getting destroyed and earth belonging to the martians.
Episode one of series two, begins with our hero hiding out in the basement with the curator and his escape. Again, the following episodes detail his adventures as earth further succumbs to the martians. The final episode of series two is the martians getting sick...
This would be perfect for a BBC sunday night audience. Fans of costume dramas would love it, and Doctor Who proves that the BBC can do big budget sci-fi. Get someone like Philip Glenister in the lead role and we're set.
Would you tune into that every week?

I has been suggested on this and the old forum that a BBC mini serie would be the best choice to do the book justice. I would applaud the BBC to take this up! But as I understand the rights for a film version lie with jeff wayne so the chance of this actually happening is not very big...

The BBC made a great adaption of The First Men in the Moon. I'm sure they'd make a damn good go of TWotW as well.

I - in the past - have suggested this idea the same as 'Thunder Child' has. I think the BBC would make a pretty good job of it (if they didn't mess around with the story too much) There are enough scenes in the book to end each episode with a cliffhanger. But the chances of Jeff Wayne relinquishing his grip on the copyrights are a million to one.

But still...Wait, no. It's hopeless.

That would be awesome. So would a proper movie set in the correct timeframe, haha.
There was a TV series made of the Tripods books. Mostly all I remember is laughing at the so-called special effects, but nevertheless cool. It was 80's or something I think.

Jeff Wayne and Paramount are a thorn in the side for anyone who wants to see the book transferred to tv or film.
