Hello guys'n'girls, long time no see for some of you. Some, hopefully, will probably remember me from the old 'War of the Worlds Online forum (mod). I'm Jon, or as others may remember me the Titanic nut, or historian (I prefer the latter ;D ). Its been a long time. Not been in the WotW loop for some 5 or 6 years now. Still a collector of Jeff's material but much of my larger stuff was sold to make more room at home. Titanic is keeping me busy - books, magazines, TV, documentaries and websites. The image below was a publicity image taken of me with the 16 ton replica Titanic anchor that I assisted with its build for the accalimed Channel 4 series 'Titanic: The Mission', which I was also historian and technical consultant for. Looking forward to chatting with the old'uns and newbies, past, present and future.

Hi Jon and welcome back to the forum, I've only been here 3 years so we never got to meet before. Although not really a Titanic fan I have made a bit of a contribution to the whole Titanic memorabilia collection. Back in the 1990s I did 3 posters for a company called 'Marine Art Posters' one was dropped because it infringed the copyright of American artist Ken Marschall (Not my fault I hasten to add ;D and I still got paid for the job.) Below are the two posters that did make it to the market and a desktop picture I did whilst learning to master a digital art program called 'Paint Shop Pro'.

I'd say infringing on the copyrights of Ken Marschall is something of a compliment actually. His work is truly stunning.
Welcome to the forum Jonathan, it looks like I'll have to get used to not being the only ship buff around here anymore. Despite the fact that I specialize in warships, I've always loved the old ocean liners, especially the Olympics, as well as the Mauritania, Lusitania, and Aquitania. Modern cruise liners are too boring to look at, what with their solitary fin-shaped funnels, massive superstructures that resemble office buildings, and those ugly white hulls of theirs. Where's that old world class that the classics provide? Why oh why did they have to change to these things? Basically, I just think that since liners are ships, they should look like it. I've found elements of beauty in even the ugliest of warships, my favorite example being Russia's Novgorod, but I can't find any redeemable features in the modern liners, the ships that are supposed to be nice to look at.

Hello Ah, I get to chat with the guy who created these. I have seen these so many times, so know I now. However, not sure why they said they were of infringement of Kens work. I know Kens work very well, and your artwork does not resemble Kens works in any form. It shows various views of Titanic and not one of them stands out as being similar to Kens released works. Your's, like Kens, are original.

Hello Yeah, I've been a ship-nut for decades, for the past 34 years with Titanic. My great, great aunt was lst in the sinking of Lusitania. She was returning back from New York after searching for a business property to take their hardware business to the States while her husband was fighting the war.

Hi Jon and welcome back to the forum, I've only been here 3 years so we never got to meet before. I've only just realized it's you Peter ;D We have chatted before over on the old 'Eve of the War' forums (now thats going back a bit). I'm a fan of your WOTW renditions and artwork. Love your version of the poster artwork of the Handling Machine and Fighting Machines from the Jeff Waye poster mag.

Your's, like Kens, are original. No, the poster that infringed upon Ken's work is not included in the pictures above and all the copies of the posters and postcards were destroyed... Mostly. It was a direct reproduction of one of Kens pictures with the title at the top and ribbons and the white star flag down the side. I asked the director of Marine Art Posters if it was okay for us to be copying someone else's work and he assured me it was fine.... But it wasn't and thousands of posters went to the incinerator.

Picture I've just finished for a book cover and desktop wallpaper Can you identify this ship from it's underside? If you can then I'll know I got it right. ;D
