I scanned and sent the first (large) image to Dr Zeus, it was from the back of a magazine years ago about Great Writers - no artist credit apart from the not-at-all-narrowing-down-the-field SMITH in the corner, BUT interestingly I found the following only a couple of days ago, which reveals the source of the other (small) images originally credited to a French edition, but which appear to have come from a British Look & Learn type magazine called Tell Me Why (I've emailed Dr Zeus about it, so they may appear on his site): projectswordtoys.blogspot.com/2010/04/scary-monsters-super-creeps.htmlIncidentally, the reason why the large (Great Writers/SMITH) image looks a bit washed out is because I'd cut out the original from the magazine and framed it, then lost it in one of my many flat moves over the years; however, I'd done an experimental colour photocopy of it donkey's years ago, when colour copiers were quite new, and the scan is of that. Also, I suspect that SMITH's painting is very much based on the anonymous paintings from Tell Me Why but not by the same artist because the style is somewhat different, and the Martian in the SMITH painting is even more of a brainiac than in the Tell Me Why images. BTW, the SMITH painting has suddenly vanished from your post, God knows why... EDIT: I see for some reason it's vanished from Dr Zeus's website - typically, I can't find the scan on my HD and neither do I know where the colour photocopy is, so unless Dr Zeus can get the link working again, it's lost to posterity. EDIT 2: I've found the image on my HD but due to photobucket being a p*sspoor piece of s**te I can't upload it at the correct size so I've given up.

I've seen the smaller ones before but not the larger, Smith one. Quite like the design.

Thank you McTodd for the information, and more for the link to those beautifull extra images! Love them! Wish I could get my hands on that magazine with these images... The text suggest the original images are from the painter Terence Cuneo. It does look a lot like his work...

I agree with you both, those paintings are magnificent, the atmosphere is fantastic.
BTW, I see Dr Zeus's link works again - tsk, after all that...
