Hi There! I was recently reminded (whilst reading WotW on a loooong train journey to a karate competition... XD) of this site and realised it had been quite a while since I last came here... XP Mostly I've been way too focused on the things I've been making for my course and for various events rather than using the internet much. But it all keeps me from getting bored, and to be honest I'm glad I'm getting such an awesome chance to explore my creative side. So, to all those who rememer me - Hello! And to anyone here I haven't met yet, well, Hello also! ;D Hope everything is going well for everyone. ^^

Hi Commandingtripod! No, I'm the worst in my group and the only one who never wins anything. XD But I enjoy going along anyway, despite the large numbers of people who go and the noise. I love competing in the Kata (which are choreographed patterns of karate moves) category the best, as it's all based on personal practice and doesn't rely on you being stronger than others; I'm normally talked into doing the sparring (fighting) as well but it scares me quite a bit as all the other women who compete are normally much taller and more aggressive than me. Plus as our federation holds the club with a different place each year (on a 6 or 7 year rota) I get to travel to different places around the UK; some of which I've never been to before, to go... even if it is just for a brief amount of time.

Are you still creating the gorgeously cute Martians?

Yes I am, but no proper pics unfotunately... I often doodle them on my notes and on random pieces of paper etc. as I really enjoy drawing them. ^^ Mostly I've been making physical objects lately (costumes, puppets, models, etc) which takes up a lot of time; most of the drawing I've been doing has been either scale/related drawings for my projects or just random little sketches when I get a few minutes spare.

I envy you artists. I'm barely able to draw a warm bath.

Hi obiwanbeeohbee. From the looks of your signature you've written a book though? Writing has never been in my skillset at all and is a pretty awesome talent also. ^^ Plus, I'm sure you're a better artist than you think you are; after all anyone can draw, it just takes practice and patience to get things looking how you want them to. I've found that if you want to improve your art skills it helps to get yourself a little sketch pad and just doodle anything in it - you can draw from what you see... trees, houses, fruit, a random squirrel in your garden, whatever; or even random little things from your imagination - and just keep drawing. For every good sketch there might well be a ton of terrible ones, but you don't have to ever let anyone see the ones you don't like - just your best work. It's easy to see other artists work and be intimidated by what they can do; a few years ago I used to look at other people's model and costuming work and thought I'd never be able to produce anything close to that standard, but I'm gradually improving my skills over time. I'm still nowhere near the standard of some of the people on my course, but am slowly getting better and have almost got to the level where I will accept my work (for various personal reasons I have never been truly happy with anything I make or draw; I'll probably never fully leave this mindset but it is a big improvement for me to even consider my work acceptable on any level). In the end, with drawing as a hobby it's all personal development and improving your own skills in your own time - if your new art is better than your previous work then you're winning.

Writing the book was fun. It was my first attempt at fiction. I have a journalism background, but ended up as a systems analyst for a government agency where I've done a lot of technical writing. I learned quite a bit from the experience and had a lot of encouragement from my friends and family.
The folks here were especially helpful to me. I got great critiques from RB and the gang on the few chapters I shared here. Lonesome Crow provided me with some excellent illustrations of my main characters and designed my cover. The cover rocks and makes my book look professionally published. I can't thank him enough.

LC did a cracking job on the cover, as he has done amazing work on most of the Wild Wolf Publishing titles too. He's a top bloke.

Yes, LC's art is beautiful and has a very distinct and lovely style to it.
