I need to move to Britain. All I get over on this side of the pond on December 8th is reality shows. Or you could save us Colonials a copy!

I've been all over HistoryChannel.com (US) and can't find this show anywhere. I am quite perturbed. You folks in the UK get this and we over here get 'Bonnie n Clyde' and 'Swamp People'. I don't even want to think about what that says about my country.

Quite simply, it says we're all a bunch of swamp-dwelling hillbilly criminals armed with Thompson submachineguns. Which isn't that far off to be honest.

I was very fortunate to see this before it was pulled from YouTube.
However, in my opinion, I don't think that the production really went far enough in selling the mockumentary.
Without getting too spoiler-y, I was not impressed with the final "twist" in the mockumentary - It wasn't set up very well and didn't have a lot of resonance.
I think that a lot of the "dated interviews" were well done and, if not for the extreme nature of the mockumentary, you wouldn't have noticed the difference between these interviews and the genuine article.
The continual use of the same "fake footage" involving the martian machines was a nice and subtle dig at real documentaries. That touch might get lost on some casual viewers.
A lot of the "fake footage," though, failed to look authentic, especially for WWI-era footage. They definitely made an attempt to make it look authentic and that ought to be acknowledged but the problem, again, is the source material - When dealing with such an extreme topic, less is so often more. Don't show the machines in near crystal-clarity; Show them from afar and out of focus.
There was one part of the "martian war strategy" that, in my opinion, was a nice concept and was well thought-out.
I'm trying not to be spoiler-ish; If anyone wants a more accurate blow-by-blow analysis, let me know. For now...
IF YOU HAVEN'T MANAGED TO SEE IT YET... You should see it at some point just for the novelty value but I'm not rushing to buy the DVD (or even renting it or even trolling YouTube to see if someone puts it up again). Your mileage (kilometerage?) may vary.

A new year's gift from across the great pond! I shall enjoy this until we can get another better alternative to the less-than-stellar programming we get here. (*coughTopGearcough*)
