I'm pretty much of the same opinion. It was interesting and entertaining, but not Shaun of the Dead. Actually.. the premise of this gives me a thread idea.

I too was expecting another Shaun, and again was disappointed. It was advertised as another comedy horror, and all the clips shown on telly were of the funny bits (trying to fit the foot in the fridge etc), but the film just didn't have enough funny moments for me. It was definately more horror than comedy, and even then it was your typical slash-em-up. More dark comedy would have made it a lot better. Shaun is my favourite zombie movie ever.

I thought it was a good film - some great gore elements and black comedy elements, but you're right it wasn't Shaun of the Dead. Shaun was leaned far more towards comedy where Severence leaned more towards the pure nastiness.

I'm not saying it's a bad film, just not what i was expecting....as wastedyuthe has said, the way it was trailered lead me to belive that it was going to be another SOFD. it wasn't, far from it....
...IMO i think danny dayer was miss cast for the role too....

Yes, perhaps if they'd have been honest in the marketing, and said it was a horror, with some good old British humour sprinkled on top, then I would have gone in with expectations to match and probably enjoyed it more as such.

I just loved the look on the guys face after he had his head sliced off, almost a 'told you so' look!! The bit where he is putting the leg in the fridge taking his boots and socks off my me a little queezy...could smeel his feet from here!

It wasn't bad - passable fun at the cinema. (I have a cinema card so I can afford to see lots of movies) I wasn't a big fan of the main character, however I did like the other characters despite them being broad brush characterisations.
And I was pleased to see Tim McInnery in it, who is a superb and much under-rated actor.
Plus the bit with the rocket and the plane was genius.
6/10

I think the problem with "Severance" (sic) for me was that it didn't seem to know whether or not it wanted to be a horror or a comedy, and the slant should have been more noticeable. It could have been a real video nasty if they'd decided to play it straight It did have a few funny bits - I particularly remember the scene where the girl gets up in the middle of the night with the granddaddy of all spiders attached to her back! ;D There were also one or two truly moving and poignant scenes - particularly when McInnerny's character makes his painful decision whether or not to step off the mine (even more so when it doesn't go off straight away! ) KR

Yeah McInnery was great, the mine scene was played very well.

Acting wise, McInnery did steal the movie. That was a great scene and his general degeneration of leadership and control of the situation was well done too.
