Ok, watched Nightwatch last night with Nerfy, not sure if this is entirely fair but...I was a little disappointed. I don't know whether its just me, but I kinda didn't get it. I mean, I understood the storyline as they explained it, but there were lots of holes and bits that were very implicit. Like for instance, they didn't really explain what the Others actually were, or why they were, or what they were doing. They just said they existed, and that was kind of it. And they seemed to be crap as well. They spent the whole time getting beaten up. Dunno, it was a good film and everything, but I can't help but think that if that was a Hollywood film, exactly as it is, but without the Russian obviously, it would probably get slagged off. I'm a big fan of world cinema, and so was really looking forward to seeing this, but it just didn't live up to the hype for me. I know what you mean. I'm hoping that a lot of the holes etc will be explained in the next two films. Overall though, I enjoyed it.

I liked it.. it was slick and action packed. But there was something missing that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe seeing the other two films, when they appear will make it work better. We'll see.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, it was a good film, but I can't help but feel left a little disappointed.
Definitely something not right in it somewhere, but as you say, hard to say exactly what though.

I know the feeling- I enjoyed Event Horizon, but felt that it had something missing from it. Depth, perhaps- like Night Watch, a bit more background or something.

Ah Event Horizon. Lawrence Fishburn and Sam Neil were both very good in that. I thought overall that it was a good un.

Yeah- Sam Neil, really hamming it up, is great fun to watch! "The gateway is open and you are all coming WITH ME!"
The shot at the beginning where the camera pans and spins away from him in the space station gives me serious vertigo. Though Paul Anderson's output clearly went down hill after this movie!

I loved Night Watch - but the best version to watch is the European theatrical version with the animated subtitles. They're just fabulous.
I also managed to get a copy of the sequel Day Watch on DVD. I'm not entirely certain, but it looks like they've merged Day watch and Dusk Watch into one movie. At least, the ending suggests that they have - unless there's an arc I've missed!

[glow=red,2,300]I loved both Nightwatch and Daywatch. From what I've heard the 'third' film is going to be made in the US for US audiences. A deal struck to bankroll the other films and the proposed russian tv series. The films are loosely based on a series of books. Oh and I heard that the reason it seems disjointed might have something to do with an entire character having been excised from the western cut! Not to mention a host of odd editing changes. [/glow]
