I think that 'last day' was originally set at 21 in the original book, but was changed to 30 for the film.
21 is probably a more frightening age for any audience. When I first saw the film at about age 11, being 30 seemed to far off in the future as to be almost unthinkable (face it when you're that age even being 20 is ancient).

I think that 'last day' was originally set at 21 in the original book, but was changed to 30 for the film. I think you're right. I'm really surprised at how popular this movie. One of those generation gap things, I think. My generation-- or at least my local SF club members-- found it to be vapid, hackneyed and excruciatingly predictable. A terrible waste of acting talent from Michael York and Peter Ustinov. On the other hand, it was no doubt a challenge to Farrah Fawcett's acting abilities. ;D The best thing I can say about "Logan's Run" is it forms part of the background and subtext for the wonderful indie film "Free Enterprise", a film by science fiction fans about SF fans for SF fans.
