'Quatermass and the pit' has one of the spookiest and sinister storylines of any work of sci-fi. It has phenomenal film potential. I would love to see a well crafted remake of this classic.

I think you'd have a job to beat the Hammer film version, actually. The atmosphere and excellent performances that film had was what made it one of my all time favourite movies. I even paid tribute to it in my TWoTW story by naming the secret underground station 'Hobbs Lane'.

I even paid tribute to it in my TWoTW story by naming the secret underground station 'Hobbs Lane'. Jonathan Demme in original "Lambs" mode could pull off the creepy horror angle, though I am not aware of any interests he may have in the scifi department. The Hammer film was a mixed bag for me. Mostly brilliant, but with parts that could definitely be improved upon to maintain consistency. The whole " race memory video" sequence has an inintentional campiness that could be improved upon. In the original we are given an explanation of what the chaotic images are supposed to be showing us, but in edgier hands we could see horrific acts of intolerance and genocide that need no explanation.
