You may be thinking of "Damnation Alley". A legendarily awful adaptation of an okay SF novel. So bad that when older fans in my social group want to say "It's some of the very worst so-called science fiction ever made", they say "It's not just bad, it's DAMNATION ALLEY bad!" Featuring the notorious attack of killer cockroaches glued onto a rug which is drug across the ground. Not *quite* the most convincing special effect ever done... ;D
