After stumbling across the website for Al Matthews (he played Sergeant Apone in Aliens) I thought I'd drop him a quick email asking if he'd like to read my latest book.
He has emailed back to say that he'd love to read it and send me a review once he's finished. He was very nice - a top bloke. He even said that once its published he'd be happy to arrange a joint launch down in London (he is busy on a writing project too).
Just thought I'd share it with you - quite chuffed really. Apone! Class!
"All right people, what are you waiting for, breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the corps. A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet. Every paycheck a fortune. Every formation a parade. I love the corps!"
;D

Assholes and Elbows! LOL I got to hold one of the actual Pulse Rifles from aliens. I was told they were swapped around a lot between the actors because only a couple actually worked! So i dare say i may have held one that Al used.

Really? Excellent! Sgt Apone? Whatever possessed you to approach him? Enquiring minds need to know! That's great news, though, mate. 'Look into my eye!'

It wouldn't have been the Colonial Marines without Apone! Congrats on your good luck, Richard!

Saw the pulse rifle at a local airsoft store- I think it was a kit that merged a Franchi-Spas 12 airsoft gun with a Tommy-gun. About $1100... but a working ammo counter was extra!

A seriously underrated and under-used actor. Watched 'Defence of the Realm' the other day (was a newspaper freebie) and he appeared in it for about all of ten seconds! : . KR

I didn't realise he was in that one lol And yes the pulse rifle is one of the all time fantastic sci-fi weapons used in films. I spoke to Al again the other week - he's busy reading both Sinema and The King of America and is going to give me some quotes that I can use soon.

When i did a film art direction course we students were taken to various prop houses. One of which was a place called Bapty's in North London. They must of had over 1000 guns from many different films.
while there they showed us the sci fi weapons they made for film they had (and i actually got to hold)
Pulse Rifles, Smart Guns, Blades Shot gun and Mac 10's, Han Solo's greedo blaster, Princess leias Blaster, Stormtroopers blasters, Stargate sg1 MP5's all authenticated but the makers and the actors. They also had Dredds lawgiver, and lara Crofts' pistols. Daltons Bond PPK and Brosnan's Bond p99. We wearnt allowed photos taken though.
I was a pig in sh*t. I got to hold the REAL oners and meet the men who made them!
I wonder if one of the Pulse Rifles i held was used by Al Mathews.

Yeah while there they also let rip with a smartgun. The noise was deafening! The flash you see is just like the one in the movie a huge starshaped pattern.
