Remember this film.
The USS Nimitz is dragged back in time to just before Pearl Harbour and the crew have to decide whether to attack the Japanese fleet with their superior weapons and change history or leave history to unfold naturally.
Stars: Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen.
It features the wonderful Tomcat fighter in all its glory long before the short one did it in Top Gun.

*Spoliers* if you haven't seen it then don't read.
I watched it again recently on dvd, and still felt as let down by the ending as the first time years ago. The suspense and possibilities are built up for a big showdown to change the course of history - and the time warp suddenly shows up again and they have to go home.
Booooooooooooooo............ No fun or spectacle. Kind of like another film ;-)
Having said that it is quite enjoyable.

I've had a soft spot for that film ever since I saw it in the cinema, when it first came out. What's not to like - Tomcats fighting Zero's and a bit of time travel too! Great stuff!

The suspense and possibilities are built up for a big showdown to change the course of history - and the time warp suddenly shows up again and they have to go home. Booooooooooooooo............ No fun or spectacle. Kind of like another film ;-) Having said that it is quite enjoyable. TFC is one of the few films i'd like to see a modern remake: Rusti version: The US launch a new top of the line Super Carrier called the USS Liberty, with a brand new untested in the field engine drive system which uses a kind of quantum singularity technology. Out to sea the engines are activated and the carrier vanishes in the wink of an eye. On the carrier they go through some kind of wormhole. many of the crew are on the exposed deck collapse from exposure to the wormhole energy. When everyone recovers they find out as in the film that they have travelled in time to just before the attack on Pearl Harbour. As they assess the damage the crew who were exposed to the energy of the wormhole all become more agressive and begin to lack reason. Basically the command staff agree not to send their planes to attack the Jap aircraft because the US then would not have entered the WW2 and Euroupe would have fallen to the nazis and America would have stood alone. Fighting breaks out among the crew who were all affected by the energy, they want to bomb the Japs and plan to take over the ship. to do so. As they plan to make their move, several Jap Fighters see the Liberty and attack badly damaging the carrier. To make matters worse during the night a Jap sub comes alongside and takes everyone prisoner. Fighting ensues the Sub is destroyed and the crew captured to make matters worse the irassional US crew take controll of the ship and intend to attack the Jap Task Force. The good guys then realise to their horror that they must ally themselves with the Japanese prisoners to stop the affected crew members and allow history to continue as normal... An additional twist would be to have Michael Douglas taking his dads role and Charlie Sheen his dad's. The finale would have a pitched battle between the Good guys and their Jap 'allies' and the affected madness driven crew members. Several fighters take off and there is a dogfight using stealth Raptor aircraft in and around the Japanese attack itself as a few good guys Raptors engage the Baddies ones over hawaii in a 'Firefox' style dogfight. The ending is where the engine is repaired and just as the baddies are killed off and the japs are dropped off. The ending is where you see the carrier vanish but you never know if they make it back or not....

Hey, that sounds very interesting. That would make an excellent reworking of it.

Not a bad film Katherine Ross is Yummy but the ending is such a cop out it just left me with a feeling of was it all worth the effort. A Zero's vs Tomcats would have been a classic but nope they just hop back through the timegate (or what ever it is) and that's that.

I think they should do a proper re-working of 'The Philedelphia Experiment'. Really gritty with horror elements.

Yeah the Philedelphia Experiment is ripe for a re-working too.

Ah missed it Although I do have it on DVD, so what am I talking about??? Is it me or is Asterix totally pants? I LOVED the comics, but those live action films stink.
