The Alloy OrchestraIn the background you can see some of the strange percussion instruments they bang on during their performances, including steel pipes and even a bedpan! (In the photo, it's turned to the wall.) They provide live accompaniment for silent films of a sort very different than the traditional music. I've seen them perform accompaniment to "The Lost World" (1925), "Nosferatu" (1922) and "Metropolis" (1927). I have the DVD of "The Lost World", nicely restored, with two soundtracks-- one a traditional one, and one by the Alloy Orchestra. They provide a very different (and very loud!) accompaniment. I think the experience can be best summed up by a ten-year-old's comment: "It's was like both sides of my brain exploded!"
