I hope this is not too mundane, but we all know that SF goes in cycles (like anything else "pop culture").
What do y'all think is next for the WOTW? The Cruise film seems to have sucked the life out of the topic for now... I think a lot of folks were, uh, *underwhelmed* (tho I still think the scene of the burning train was magnificent). Then there was the Pendragon effort (OUCH!! What were they thinking??!)...
Next up?

Well it looks like the only hope is Jeff Wayne - though when we get to see it is anyone's guess. I trust Jeff Wayne more than the others but I still have many reservations as to what it will turn out like.

Yeah, I'm waiting with baited breath for Mr Wayne's masterpiece to be! After seeing the amazing effects on the stage show I am optimistic that it will be brilliant. Only trouble is having to wait so long for it.

Yeah... Jeff Wayne... worked with hisw folks a bit in '05. Only thing is I heard a lot about Chinese theme parks and the like (memory is a bit fuzzy here). Wonder when/if it will show up?
I guess It'll be another 5-10 year cycle before anyone else touches the story on the big or small screen. I miss it already.
Best I've seen was on this board, someone postulating a WOTW *comedy* with Simon Pegg and Co. ("Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz"). This I would gladly pay to see!

I want it left alone for a while, unimpressed sums up what ive seen so far, both with whats on screen as well as the dirty dealings behind the screen over who has what rights.
Wonderful chances ruined.

Same here, but even though I don't want Wayne to rush his film - they have had years already to get things together, surely - so I hope it's going to be within the next few years at the most. When I used to read Pendragons stupid press releases a couple of years ago - I didn't think we'd get to 2000 and flippin 7 and we'd still have no decent authentic version of the book.

Interesting what you mention about rights. WOTW the weirdest rights clearance situation I've ever dealth with. Apparently Wayne &Co have blanket rights (almost blanket- it may skip TV or something) in England and the old Commonwealth. The Wells estate still controls certain areas and, while decent folks, are e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e. The rest was snagged by Paramount, who (when they were working on the Cruise WOTW) went around threatening everyone (including me) with lawsuits for BREATHING WOTW. Bastards. At any rate, it will be interesting to see what comes of this in a few years, when the '05 WOTW is played out in the home video market, Para may lighten up. US corporations and their nasty legal depts. have a way of stomping the life out of almost anything interesting.
I recall a few years back (I was working on Trek DS9 at the time) when para went around and threatened EVERYONE with a Trek-based website with lawsuits. It was politely pointed out that this was their CORE fan base... and they look at you like you just fell off the proverbial turnip truck. Might lose a few pennies; gotta control the brand. So they controlled it allright, right into the dirt.
Sorry if I sound a bit peevish. When Rick Berman (Exec prod of Trek franchise) decided to order the writers to change the date of the discovery of warp drive we all gulped- and then found out that it was as a birthday gift to his son (I think it was in "First Contact"). Despite offending his core fanbase beyond belief, I hear the party for Jr. went off without a hitch. How nice.
*End of Rant*
These are the folks who control what we get to enjoy in the SF theatrical/TV world.

Current work is... a show about Feng Shui. The good thing about having mild ADD is that one can become sufficiently interested in almost ANYTHING to make a (modest) living. Nex up= a show about media and kids (as in some of the nasty effects of overconsumption). Anyone who has shelled out the $$$ for a modern pair of branded sneakers (like $140!) will understand.
I do want to get back to SF tho. Loved it since I was a lad.
