Blimey! Like everyone I've heard of giant squids but it's only in the last year or two that I've been aware of the 'collossal squid'. Shame the photo's not a bit clearer though.

It's only in the past few months that anyone's gotten pictures of live Colossal Squids. (The name "Giant Squid" had already been used for another species.) They live in very deep water. But they were known from carcasses washed up on shores at various places around the world. We still know very little about their behavior, altho we know sperm whales eat them regularly. There's also debate over just how large they can get. Wikipedia says the current estimate is they top out at about 40 feet long, but sucker scars on sperm whales indicate some get considerably larger. Think Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" large.
