Hello all, Today I was wondering about the Internet when I just happened to find this old article from AICN. Read it here: www.aintitcool.com/node/4914I'd give anything to just get a peak at that script, it would be amazing to see a good, well-funded original adaption of the book. On an optimistic not those 21 years he mentioned, now its only 13 years to go! Tripod

Yeah, 2017 before we can see a half decent version.
Wayne has the non cinematc rights, so as long as we can keep it to the big screen...

I've seen that loads of times. There are some pretty basic errors in there that show a lack of understanding of TWoTW, never mind the copyright situation. Which is way too complicated to sum up like that. But there you go.

I've often looked at that too! I'd love to see a detailed rebuttal of that by JWM. Maybe Jeff Wayne has been holding the WOTW film world to ransom, I don't know - but it seems as if they're all blaming Jeff Wayne whereas Paramount are the ones who hold the film making rights and I doubt it exceedingly much that Cruise and Paramount would have set the film in Victorian England anyway.
And why couldn't Briggs have made that Hallmark tv series [ which most probably would've been pretty rubbish - as most Hallmark things are kid friendly rubbish ] anyway? It could just have been shown in the USA and certain other countries.

paramount and wayne both need a fecking good thumping for screwing up the WOTW situation. The people are crying out for a decent version but when twat meets knobend the only people who lose out are the loyal fans.

Alright. Let's be serious here for a moment. Jeff Wayne won't rebut it because he isn't that type of person. When our old friend Hines was calling him all the names under the sun, he stayed silent. They refused to comment. I know because I asked. Why? Because Jeff has bought and paid for what he has... and he has to answer to no one. Fair play, yes? I know I probably can't be looked upon as totally without a lack of interest here ... I run JW's website, after all (but, I should remind everyone, I don't get paid a bean for it!)... but I know bullshit from truth and most of the stuff you see online really is bullshit, as far as I know. People are looking for a scapegoat... someone to blame for the lack of a decent adaption of TWoTW. Fair enough. To my mind (and take it or leave my thoughts as you will), I don't think JW is to blame.

I dont think we'll see a proper serious version. What do we have.
A musical (as good as it is its not a serious version) A 50's b movie (the cylinders are about the only accurate bit) A 20'tens remake of the above b movie. That steers away from the accuracy even more than the 50's version. A cheapo to the book version that is so ham fisted i thought i'd landed in a pig farm. Another cheapo modern version but again its set in modern times and is cheap.
See a pattern here.
We want a: To the book, big budget, un bolloxed version. No fecking singing priests, no fecking hero dads or their screaming shit offspring, no hovering machines, no fake moustaches, no sloppy cerial packet effects.
been there done that we deserve a proper version. WOTW is Wells greatest works and the most pissed on.

WOTW is Wells greatest works and the most pissed on. It certainly is! It's so ludicrous if you think about it. The novel is a masterpiece and whilst I don't mind maybe a few imaginitive and tasteful things added to any film adaptation - it could so easily be translated into a masterpiece of celluloid - without peoples egos and appalling executives in suits changing things. Maybe Jeff Wayne could still do a serious version if like the rumours a while back he uses his music as an orchestral score instead, it's a grown up film and the tripods don't look like bug eyed/Hulks ass faced toys and they're modified so they're much more like the books description.

You can hardly find a proper translation novel to movie, anywhere. I think we got some decent versions and should be happy with it. The movie of our dreams....that will never happen.

They just want to know what's what when it comes to the WOTW copyright situation and why nobody can do a decent film when Wells masterpiece is staring them in the face. From what I've seen I think Paramount is the main villain as I've often said, but as we all know the copyright stuff is a bit complicated.

Decent versions reppu? Well, JW rendition is much more than decent. Movie from 2005 was quite good for me, i enjoyed it a lot even with all it's flaws. I am afraid that's as good as it gets, at least until the CGI movie is released. Thing is, a proper victorian movie is seen as too risky for a big production, mixing Sci-Fi with victorian costumes....maybe that would work only for hardcore fans like us and we are not so many, actually. Then again, the last "time machine" movie was rather succesfull, but not a superproduction by any means, and it had many victorian bits.....
