Just got back from a wonderful gig and am a bit gutted to find out. I didn't even know he was ill. I'm from the North and grew up on Joy Division and Happy Mondays. He was an opinionated wanker, but he was also a nice guy and his opinions were usually true. And he was incredibly eccentric. He managed two incredibly successful bands and basically arranged it so that he never made a penny out of them. Of course, they never made much money out of him either, but they had unlimited creative freedom and went on to define a decade of music, so that's okay. RIP Tony Wilson.

Yea he definitely had his faults, and I agree about him being an opinionated wanker. The thing is he made a huge difference and helped to put the Manch music scene on the map.
Anyone who hasn't seen the film "24 Hour Party People" really should do now, in retrospect.
RIP
