Start drinking. Works for me. Probably not a good example to follow though. Have you spoken to your Doc?

If it's a serious concern, do so. I would. Let us know how you get on.

I was prescribed a medicine that says on the bottle it's called "Clonidine HCL". I don't know if you can get it without prescription, but I do know it helps me fall asleep quicker. [ad]Consult your local pharmacist today to see if Clonidine is right for you![/ad] ;D But seriously, please do if it's a serious concern.

Do you know what couses your insomnia? If it's a common problem for you, maybe you speak to your doctor about it as Nerfy suggested... they might be able to find out a cause and tell you what's the best course of action to take to avoid it. Some things to try, if you haven't already, might be ensuring the room is not too bright/noisy, and that your bed is comfortable, etc... it's very hard to sleep with excess noise/light in the room. Is it stress-related? Maybe it might help to clear your mind by listening to music/reading a book just before sleep? Some people I know have said that drinking warm milk or green/herb tea before bed helps too, but I'm not sure about this as I've never tried it. There's bound to be pleanty of suggestions on things to try on the web if you google it, but I'd say the Doctor is your best bet if the problem doesn't get any better, as that advice will be specifically for you. All the best.

I saw it on facebook, about the problem, so when i came here just now, i wanted to respond, Is it like this since a long time? Is there anything new in your life that gives you stress?, Go to your Doctor, but dont take benzodiazepine, these drugs make you an addict in 5 days, after that you have to take more for the same effect, Go over this with your Doctor, and keep us posted.
And about Facebook. it is a nice site, but i really cant participe in everything there is. It is far to much things to respond to. I dont have enough time to go over everything, i try my best.
So please keep us posted, and i hope your sleeping problems will be solved soon.
Chantale.

well it all caught up with me Monday ive just woken up from an nice 8 hour sleep. It all just hit me at once, head hit the pillow and i was gone.
I think its the shifts i do, i had a period of day/nigh shifts last week because a member of staff was ill. it just addled my brain.
I got a lot to do this week, more overtime for starters, plus i need to finish RB's doodles, among a lot of other things.

Sorry you're suffering, mate. Try not taking any stimulants like caffeine beyond early evening, also read for a while before trying to sleep. It is also important to be comfortable - preferably have a window open slightly to increase airflow and keep the room from becoming too warm. Crisp, clean bedding also helps actually.

It could well be the shift work guv'nor. I work in a hospital lab and have to cope with doing a random mixture of ordinary days, long (13 hour) days and 12 hour nights. So believe me I know just how badly shift work can mess you up.
Shift work gets people in different ways. Some bods just seem to be able to cope with it with no side effects (lucky wossnames!). Some people (like yourself) get terrible insomnia. Other people (like me) have the opposite problem and find it a struggle to stay awake.
I hate shift work. If I could have one wish granted right now it would be an end to doing shifts, but I've got a young family to support so I don't have the choice at the moment.
