Today i got told my phone has been repaired but they charged me 60 quid, 67 actually.
I argued that this phone was still in warranty, yes the phone is in warranty except for the screen!! And it was the screen that went! I had a D900i phone and the screen brokie twice (turns out that Samsung phones that slide open are prone to breaking! A whole bunch of them have broken.)
This smacks of Samsung washing its hands of the fact they have made a substandard product.
I asked O2 if i can just order a new type of phone, and keep or extend the contract. They said no, if i want a new phone i would have to pay off the remaining 10 months of my contract which is 360 quid!!! Not pay off the phone which is a visible piece of hardware, but pay off the contract which is just a few signatures and bits of paper. That it seems is more valuable.
So: pay 60 quid and have a substandard phone for the next 10 months that is likely to break again and again. Or pay off the remaining contract just so i can have a clean sweep.
However there is a halfway choice. Because O2 has the new iphone, i can port over my existing contract to an iphone but i have to pay 260 for the handset. 100 quid cheaper than paying off my contract.
Ive seen one of these new phones in full mode and it is stunning, and all the reviews say its built like a tank. The phone really is as advertised. Although i dont want to pay 260 its a lesser of two evils: a bigger bill or a defective POS.
The monthly contract is the same as my current one: 35 quid.
In all the iphone seems to be the best option, i'll never go with Samsung again though anymore, ever. i've had a monitor that screwed up from them and now a phone. Nasty shit.
Be warned you could be fecked and it wont be your fault but you'll pay for it.
