if people want to visit Woking then you have 5 or so years to do it in. Its been announced that the council are planning on knocking down the last few portions of the old victorian era Woking to make way for high tech 30 story high monsters that feature, shops, flats, and a huge bus, train hub to heathrow. All part of the expansion of the airport. I live in the area designated for demolition and i'm telling you im laying down infront of these bulldozers. (And you cant catch me out like that either!) Wells house also falls in the area for 'redevelopment' but i dont know what they will do with it. Woking council doesnt give a shit what it destroys. They want Woking to be something it isnt and they dont care who they piss off. Chertsey Road is home to hundreds of people, its the main entertainment area of the town with many pubs and restaurants and other shops. The disruption would be catastrophic! So you want to see some of victorian Woking, get yer skates on the clock is ticking.

Isn't any of it protected? Rusti, I'm truly sorry. They might call it progress... we might call it... bollocks. It's a disgrace... but, also, it's a sign of the times. God help all of us, those with half a brain, in the world we find ourselves in. I wonder if I wasn't born 100 years too late, at times. God knows, shit like this makes me wonder.

The COUNCIL has it 'protected' Basically its safe until they change their minds...

Ah. I don't understand that side of it enough, I guess. But isn't protection of listed buildings and stuff a national, rather than a regional, issue? Surely HG's place is safe??

That i dont know, the thing is they want to expand the tracks and station. Wells house is right next to the tracks next to the end portion of the station, i cant see them expanding without flattening the area. I'll have to look into it more, but my hunch isnt looking good.

Ok. Let us know what you come up with then, mate. Something has to be done to stop these pleasure palace building assholes, surely? Our heritage... as Brits... as citizens of this country (we all live here : white, black or whatever)...must be thought as more important than any conglomerate who wish to cater for the CHA(R)V(ER)* society we seem to be offering some kind of haven to. We have a BEAUTIFUL country here. Anyone who has looked at even part of it will say so. Is it that bad that we need to erode our heritage now? No, it isn't. Greed, bad management, whatever.... they will try to erase it all. But there are those of us who will know the beauty of this land of ours.. and will fight for it. It maybe a long way off... but I am ready to offer support to what we have here. Whatever that may entail.
*This depends on which part of the UK you hail from. Ultimately, though, they are all the same. Nemesis.

It's what they do after that that can make them greater.

Yeah I know. This is partly why we are weary of these things. But sometimes someone great can come along who can have the strength to keep things together. We had Churchill. Yes. But who else has made the grade since?

But who else has made the grade since? Agreed, we need another Cromwell, Cromwell knew theings couldnt last as they were and he was brave enough to challenge the order. Sadly though he paved the way for democracy to flourish but he was ultimatly corrupt himself. But he got the ball rolling we owe him that. We need a Cromwell without the corrupt streak, is there one?

Yup, she got the ball rolling as it were but she became corrupt herself. I like the American idea: 2 terms and your out regardless. Let someone else have a go. A leader isnt in long enough to spoil things too much. (depending on your viewpoint)
