nervouspete: thanks for the kind words mate DoA: cheers man, talked to you on msn as you know stuulla: hehe thanks dude, nah im not currently looking to make ahandling machine, gotta move on and broaden the things i do, im looking to get good enough for a job some day so cant stick around on the same topics too much steann: cheers! CT: heh that'll be the day haha, cheers man anim8tr: thank oyu kindly About time I updated really aint it! 1000x709 (321kb) the original render is 2000px wide, but heres a smaller one untill its done Getting there now, used a couple of photos for the fire as i dont have software to create a decent effect in max. I know its not perfect but i think its coming to an end fairly soon (at bloody last! i know you're all thinking it) i rendered this using 5 different files due to crazy polycounts and not such a high spec pc (combined polycounts at render time are probably something around 5-6 million triangles (1 million for the cobbled displacement, and the red weed/ivy eats it up too) separate files: 1. forground building and soldiers 2.cobbled floor 3.midground houses and soldiers and fencing 4.field on left, houses beind it and main tripod 5.rear landscape, church, houses on hill and minor tripods 6. falling cylinders the falling cylinders in the sky are kinda pants at the moment, will try to improve those let me now your thoughht if you will, anything you dont like, needs adding or just anything in general, all comments good or bad are gladly received and always have been. cheers guys oh and before i forget, ive got a little treat for you chaps, heres a little spoof image a knocked up today to take my mind off the big scene click the image to get a big desktop size version (1280x1024) if you're interested in a background (ive actually got this as my background myself at the mo, i finally made something i wouldnt mond looking at myself haha

That's amazing, mrgrotey! The detail is fantastic... I'm not surprised that it's taken you so long to render! Using the photos for the fire has really worked out well, too - it makes it look so real. Plus, the 'weathered' look of the tripod really gives it personality... it looks as if it has encountered quite a bit of human resistance on it's travels. I don't really see anything wrong with the way the falling cylinders look... but the higher one of the two looks a little 'off' somehow... maybe it's the the positioning of it? It is a lovely picture, and I can't wait to see it when it's completed. ^^
Oh yes... and The TriPod picture is great. ;D

Heh, these latest pics are pretty good Micheal, I too am now using that first pic as my desktop wallpaper. I can't really say much else, otherwise i'd just be repeating what these guys have said. On my end, i've just started work on the HM's legs, then i'll do the arms+claws, heatray, then texutres, then it'll be done. Catch ya later on MSN dude.

cool model, i was working on a JW model about a year ago and lost the whole damn hard drive. too bad.
i'd like to get some detailed shematics of the Pendragon design... unlike a lot of people, i liked those tripod designs (minus the weird chain tentacles). i tried to capture several shots from the DVD but could never get enough of a 'feel' for the entire thing from all sides to make a good model.
oh well.

Great stuff, Mr Grotey!
I love the triPod, but as stated before, just a little glowing greenness in the eyes would really enhance it, IMHO

luperis: thanks for nice comments RB: hehe cheers mate, i liked it too poyks: cheers guv! GoA: cheers Ant steann: hee thats pretty funny doing that up and down thing thanks for the comments malfunkshun: cheers dude, too bad about the hard rive thing the donal: that new gilbert sig kicks ass! loved that guy when he was around! i did try that green glow thing but could never get it looking good ah well cheers man krakatoa: hey no problem thanks for commenting Update: ITS FINISHED!!! Hey guys ive got to thank each and every one of you (all in one go mind, i certainly aint listing you all 10 pages of you! [Tongue] ) for all the great crits and comments you've given me to get this scene where it is. Im still open to any essential changes but as it is i can finally call it done. This was originally going to be a short project just coz i wanted to make a tripod and it turned into a full blown scene. Heres the final big scene after tons of PS work including , color grading, touch ups, adding the fire, more smoke and general dirt here and there. 2057x1474 - 911kb And for those of you who are interested here is the scene straight out of max with no PS work apart from comp'ing the layers together: 1000x709 - 343kb P.S. a gold star to the first person to correctly identify the image used in the reflection of the tripods eyes (not just the object, the image used)

That's brilliant!!! I love the Curate on the right, and the lifting of the back leg. Is that the flying machine reflected in the hood? I think the tripod walking away on the right hand side is a very nice touch as well. The battle scars on the nearest tripod are a very nice detail feature as well. Now looking at the detail on the buildings, the sky and the general perspective... this is a wonderful work of art!!! The water pump and bucket, the reloading soldier, the right cannon wheel bouncing off the cobbles.. I could go on forever....
