That's amazing. I love the eyes- thetexture is great!
What techniques did you get to bring up this level of detail? I only dabble with Cinema 4D from time to time (not very experienced), but never managed to get past the basic body shape- the segments on the body eluded me as I haven't really got the skills....

Positively gorgeous! That's some magnificent work! Sure you don't work for Weta on the side? Also, thanks for sharing the specs on your setup. Bravo!

stuulla: hehe cheers mate, hopefully he's listening ;D comanding tripod: ah your here too just replied over on the other forum hehe. no animation yet but its in the pipeline, finalising the textures first poyks: cheers matey richardburton: cheers ears sir clive sinclair: thank you sir, for the bumpyness of the eyes i used a normal map (my first ever go at a normal map and it came out great! so much difference to a bump map). and the hex pattern is a tiled opacity map subtley merging the green of the eyes and the black of the gaps inbetween, the colour is a noise map of green and the purple hues, lastly the specular highlights are yellow. all this was necesary to mimic the insect like look. steann: cheers dude anim8tr: hehe i wish! no probs, cheers man Update: Right who the feck left my model out in the rain? huh? (1108x668) Did i over-do it? not sure if its a bit much really, oh and i have only done rust, will do blast marks next. Also ive been working on this recently too, it for the eventual scene that i will hopefully do. (1428x588) (weird proportions i know but they're not final renders or anything) let me know what y'all think guys.

Excellent- that rusty tripod would look good on Maybury hill with kids playing under it!!! Go on- get your trees out and build us a scene!!! Ohpleeeeeease!
Cheers for the texture info- for the bumps on the body (the segments)- did you just subdivide then move the lines? I'm presuming you've used Nurbs after building a frame, then changing the way the nurbs stick to the points/lines of the frame? I don't know how 3DS Max works- I can't find a way of moving these on C4D- Maya does it, but I'm not so hot with that...
Cheers for inspiring me to play about with stuff again though!!
Your work on your website is great, btw- I like the cyclist from Belleville Rendez-Vous. That's a fantastic movie too...

Yeah I get around places don't I. I can't wait for the animation effects as well. ;D How long have you been doing modelling for? On the subject of rust - something about it for me doesn't click. Can I suggest you try and rust up the joints and maybe less on the hood itself - if you've got time of course - I don't want my opinons dominating your work. Of course, I'm not saying I don't like it - I think it's fantastic. Nice cannons, you can start to have real battles soon. Nice web site too.

Sir CLive: Nurbs? eewww! nah nurbs in 3ds max are dreadful, its all polymodelling. and yeah just cut in extra lines or chamfer existing ones and pull them about is the name of the game. yeah belleville rocks! i love that film, just had to do those characters. cheers mate comandingtripod: ive been using max for just voer a year now and using AuroCAD for about 7 yrs. im starting to feel ok in the package now and not a total learner, although its takes years of hard work to get 'good' at this program. so much to it. regarding the rust, pretty much everyone everywhere says its wrong so im ditching it and just going for a dirty cannon-blasted look instead. People opinion are what im aiming for here so dont worry about that, id rather people told me they dont thinks its that good and tell me why so i can improve rather than a barrage of 'it's brilliant' coz i wont advance that way so keep up your crits cheers man richard burton: thanks man, i actually really like it too but as everyone points out itsa a bit out of place and wouldnt really happen so it will stay simply as a picture on my hard drive and wont be the final version, ah well, we live an learn Update: heres the start of my soldier, ive gone for red tunic guys although theres a debate on whether its red or blue or khaki. i may do a variation of this one so they'r no all the same though, im using low poly soldier and baking on the bump details of the high poly one using a normal map. (incase you know what im talking about that is hope you like it getting interesting now
