Ha ha. The two guys on top of the hood look like their doing a dance and the other guy sitting down looks like he's reading a book. I like your infantry formations down the bottom as well. The Rust/battle scars look good on the tripod now. Nice work. ;D

Good lord, mate. That's around what? 200 or so soldiers your trying to 3D render? I think that would all but kill my Pentium 4. Looking ace! Reminds me vaguely of Gulliver's falling to Liliput and Blefuscu. As I've seen in some movies anyhow.

CT: "...The two guys on top of the hood look like their doing a dance ..." you'd be correct there, specifically a jive got a pic off google images and recreated the pose for that. I personally like the guy who's been stomped on and is getting laughed at by his mates may not notice at first, pretty small anim8tr: i think its around 140'ish on my last count and it didnt kill my pentium 4 my just have a lowly 2.26Ghz P4 1Gig RAM machine churning this junk out renders surprising quick as they are all so far away, im using mental ray which is a pretty fast renderer anyway for basic (no effects) stuff. Cheers matey update: finally got round to texturing the cannon. im using 3 x 512 diffuse maps, all with bump and spec maps to suit ive also made a medium and super low poly one for the distance objects that one unwrap shown because im quite proud as its the most compacted and neat unwrap ive done yet, no other reason oh and i made this little animation of how the posing of the soldiers works (note its 14mb) thought id do another little scene to christen the cannon Low poly for distance shots Wow lots of images, sorry.

I wouldn't be sorry there are lots of images - all the more to look at and enjoy. ;D Your cannon/soldier render is fantastic. When you do create some animations, can I suggest you put them on youtube because from what I can see here lots of people would be really interested in them. Fantastic stuff. Can't wait for more.

Your pictures are absolutely stunning! But I do have one remark: I am not an artillery expert but the type of cannon in your pics seem to be of a too old fashioned type. To me they look to be more like early 19th century instead of late 19th / early 20th century. Especially the cannon balls. As far as I know the British army already used breech loading guns with cased ammonition in the last years of the 19th century. In the novel Wells even mentions that the martian at Shepperton is destroyed by an exploding shell, rather then a cannon ball... Just thought to start a discussion about this ;D Excellent work! Keep it up, can't wait to see more Johan

Hello, mrgrotey. Your artwork is absolutely amazing! The textures are lovely, light/dark/shadows work well and it looks so real... I especially love the tripod and the cannons - they're fantastic. ^^ I look forward to seeing more of your work. P.S. Great web site. Some awesome artwork there

CT: fair enough i post more then! yeah ill see what i can do about the youtube thing, im not even registered with them yet just a window shopper. thanks again RB: ta v much thunderchild: thanks mate, yeah, suppose its not historically correct but them neither are the soldier uniforms but hey i found a website with tons of pics of the making of this cannon and coldnt let it pass forgive me? cheers mate luperis: So you dont like my soldier huh? hehe just kidding, i really appreciate the comments you made, thanks a lot. Anyway, slightly off-topic'ish update. I entered in a small contest on a CG forum that challenges people to make something using just 12 triangles (the triangular face that make up all 3d models and referred to us geek as tri's) and amongst two other things, i came up with the 12-tri-pod!) haha genius i know cant think where i got the idea though. its remarkably hard to make something out of 12 tris bearing in mind that a simple cube in its lowest form use all twelve! each side is a square which is made from 2triangles heres my efforts, i though you lot would enjoy this as its a little sneak peak into how the animation may look

Looking good. And I was wondering why it was all flat! Will you use that style of walking for your other tripods?

Considering the restrictions, that's a great job! :-) The walking action is brilliant!

Your work never ceases to amaze, Grotey! The textures really make it, once more!
I tend to agree with the comment re the styling of the cannons- unless you pop a Jolly Rodger on top of the tripod, of course!!!
The animation on the 12 poly model is great- it really works well.
Can't wait to see the finished scene.
