Colm Meany aka Miles O'Brien from DS9 will be Gene Hunt. Actually i'm looking forward to this especially now i know Chiefy boy is to play the non PC in yer face cop. watch this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIJ2mKNxFyA(swearing) Watching this i can understand why they picked him. I like Colm Meany he can play psychos and nice guys equally. The US version is a Hill Street Blues type setting.

Colm Meany, eh? I think he's ace - and sounds like perfect casting. I was already to hate this off the bat, but if they've put that much thought into casting then who knows? They might be trying something slightly different and equally interesting? Good luck to them, I say.

When I saw this thread title I started gearing up for a tantrum, but after watching the clip I gotta admit that was pretty cool.
I still haven't seen the end of the original Life on Mars yet (so nobody tell me anything). BBC America is running it as we speak, and I'm halfway through season two.
Does anybody know when this US version is supposed to air, if at all? and who is supposed to play Sam Tyler?

Are you loving OUR LoM, Melee? As for the US one, not sure on either. But us Brits will have the British follow up 'Ashes to Ashes' to enjoy in the next few months. With the REAL and original (and best!) Gene Hunt. But I will look forward to the U.S version of LoM... looks like they may have actually had a bit of respect for the original in mind for this one. For a change. And Colm Meany as Mr Hunt is, IMO, a great start. For some differing views on the US LoM, here is the wiki page... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_on_Mars_(US_TV_series)But , if this is true... what's that with a 'lone female detective'...

oh yes, I'm loving the original. One of the more creative shows I've seen in a long time. That's why when I saw the thread title, and considered the US has a history of ripping off and ruining really awesome European shows, I really didn't want to know. But Colm Meany as DCI Hunt is brilliant casting. he plays a hard ass asshole really really well. I have no idea who the girl is playing Annie Cartwright.
If Jason O'Mara is who i think he is (Monarch of the Glen) then I can live with him as Sam Tyler.
I really want to see the follow up series with Hunt going into the future. Boy talk about a fish out water in these politically correct times.

Came across this snippet yesterday regards the US version. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/news-feed/2008/08/28/mars-stripes-86908-20714267/Hopefully this link will work. Had seen the trailer for the pilot with Colm Meaney as Gene Hunt some time back ....... Oh dear. It was chronic. I could live with Harvey Keitel as Gene Hunt circa Reserviour Dogs but his appearance in the photos reminded me of some of the characters hanging about the local hostel. In my honest opinion this is a project doomed from the start.

Welcome to the forum, silverlocusts! Interesting article. Harvey Keitel? A bit old for the Gene Genie isn't he?
