And hello to all of you,
Ladies and gentlemen it has been two years already since Steven Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds' hit the theaters. The film ,as we all know, created a divide amongst the WotW fan community. There are the people who like it, those in the middle and those who did not like it at all. But where do we stand now? We're far away from all the hype that was created before the film, so tell honestly what did you think?

Same for me, despite its flaws, i still like it, because it made me find out that we had the book at the library and, i started to read it before the movie came out, then at the same time and after the movie came out, and because of the book i anderstood some part of the movies, like the red weed, for example, and from what it came from, and other things. It also gave me the idea to write the book, not at first, it took a while, before i woke up one morning and started the book, at the time i was very impress about these tripods machines. And i like the part that make me remember the 1953 Pal movie, the part that, people did'nt like if they did'nt see 1953 movie. i have to admit i am still impress by the tripods machine ;D Chantale.

I had a good grasp of what they were trying to do after seeing the first three trailers, and knowing the background of the story helped a lot. My problem with it is that I believe the people who created the effects actually had a more interesting story in mind than the writers or director. Speilberg had his eye in the right direction, but he didn't take any side in regards to the reason why the people in his film were made refugees. Without the "We have met the enemy, and he is us" message, the film loses what should have been it's greatest irony. I loved much of the imagery and what I believe is it's reason for being, but the non-judgmental tone of the script rendered what happened pretty much meaningless in a socio-political sense.

Well, I've written reams of stuff in the past about this and other TWoTW movies so this time I shall just say... Basically flawed but with some awesome moments that made the hairs on my neck stand up. Which is a good thing.

Well- thought about this recently. I was increasingly disappointed with each viewing- last time I couldn't finish the film and at the moment don't have a desire to do so. It has some great moments, but lacks as a whole.
I will watch it and given a big enough break, will enjoy it again too. With some films, I find that some time must pass so that previouos prejudices will dim and I can watch them with a fresh perspective. Though I won't be expecting a huge change in opinion.

I say he rushed it too much since he was working on Munich during the same time, from what i read. I think if he devoted all of his time and put Munich on hold for awhile, It would have been a much better film. I still cannot understand to this day of why he left certain parts out of it, like for example, the tav scene and then after the ferry thing, they go through a small town full of 10 or more tripods and one looking through a building pulling out people by its tentacles why Ray and his kids hide behind a vehicle while looking on. I say Spielyburgy should make a new dvd relesease and put all of that he took out back on it.

5 years... of course, I have it on DVD and might watch it again today. I liked it, overall.
The things I didn't like were that it jumped into the action a bit too quickly for me; there's a storm, EM pulse and suddenly things pop out of the ground... I liked it in the story when the asteroids came down and people start speculating on what it is and where it came from and what do they want. All that build up of suspense is terrific. They even had some of that in Independance Day.
Also, that Fanning kid got on my nerves. I hate children who actually have talent. At least she'll probably end up being an alcoholic.

Blimey time flies when you're...erm...getting older.
Overall I still like it. Robbie annoyed the hell out of me more than Rachel and there was little motivation for him to act the way he did. If his mother or Rachel had been killed by the aliens then you could understand his utter determination to run off and fight them, but instead he just came across as a spoilt brat. The first time I watched the Ogilvie scene I thought it was brooding, claustrophobic and tense. Now I still think it's well acted and pretty tense, but I find the whole scene goes on far too long now. I also think the ending was rushed and that Robbie having miraculously survived stretched the boundaries of belief far too far.
The things I still love about it are the fighting machines, the ferry scene, the flaming train scene, the scene with the army and airforce trying to hold the aliens back and also the small unit action at the end (even though it was rushed - would've liked to have seen more).

Just realized that it has been 5 years since this film came out. And that made me remember my old friends from WotWOnline. Oh, how great were those times.
As for the film, I still enjoy it just as much as I did five years ago if not more. It reminds me of an incredibly exciting summer. It couldn't get any better for a fifteen year old 'War of the Worlds' fan.
