Give it up mate, it's not going to happen. It'll happen. We just have to wait for the promised release date, which will be in 2007. So all we have to do is wait until it's 2007. Oh, wait...

So, what ended up happening to the Jeff Wayne film? Is it cancelled or set back? (Sorry if I don't seem completely up on it; I'm new here.

Thanks! ;D
I'm sorry to hear that. I was quite excited over the film.
Is there any news about it that might explain the delay?

It's pretty much down to the success of the live shows, I'm thinking. Jeff doesn't seem to have the time to devote to the film. When I ask him aboiut it periodically he says it's still going to happen but, when? Who knows.

If it does come, I'm eager to see it.

I think Paramount and Jeff Wayne should stop holding the War of the Worlds world to ransome and give the rights to someone who can do the book justice.

I don't know about the people of the rest of the world, but the American public doesn't want a remake of the book. Sadly, a lot of the people of my generation could care less about anything having to do with Britain. I have no regrets about my decision to stand apart from most people of my generation and culture.
The term "Americans will watch anything," is reasonably accurate, except the one thing 'we' refuse to view is anything that accurately portrays a classical novel. As you can tell, I am highly critical of my culture. So, don't expect an accurate film version from the States any time soon. Or rather, never.

I'm American as well, and I'd be thrilled to see an accurate, well-done adaptation of WOTW. Then again, I'm also interested in British culture and literature.

And yet, Hollywood is faithful to other British classics such as Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes and Braveheart to mention a few, sure they may mess around with the plot line a bit but they usually keep it to the correct timeline and location. So why not TWotW? if America audiences are willing to sit through these other films and enjoy them why not TWotW? Come on it's a perfect opportunity to see hundreds of the hated Brits suffering and getting burnt alive. ;D

Probably because most Americans don't even know about the book. Or the radio broadcast. Or the musical. Or the '53 film. Most think Spielberg came up with The War of the Worlds.

I frequently have to display my own copy of the book to prove that Wells had the idea first. And even then one person thought it was a novelisation of the Spielberg film.
