UllahWiki is on hold. As you may have noticed, this isn't because I can't be bothered but due to some exciting news.
I am moving to Beverly Hills pretty soon so that's taking up ,cuh of my time, my production business is moving there and I have some good benefactors, one of which has shown interest in the War of the Worlds project I've been working on for a while now. Now I cannot and will not go into any details right now suffice to say the following.
1: There Will be no major promises. I have seen many made and broken in the past
2: Though i am painfully going through the process once again of watching the Pendragon Film, I would appriciate if this project comes to fruition (which it very may well do) not to draw any comparisons to that project or bring it into conversation. History on this forum has only showed me that such debates can and will be heated.
3: I am not going to make boasts on quality or what to expect. I shall leave the ultimate production and your opinion of it to yourselves.
4: Don't expect any more news for now as I haven't got any to offer. But feel free to give me some input on how your ideal period WOTW film should be once and for all
Well that's it for now. If there is anyone willing to take over the Ullahwiki for me to get it started oh please please please do so

Well I don't know what you might have planned but any WOTW film needs a big budget for a start, it needs great actors, great script [ no need to alter what Wells wrote ], it should be a big screen film too and very authentic to the book. It should be great in all areas.

Interesting comments. I once did a piece wiith Todd McFarlane a long time ago and he said the same thing when producing Spawn. There was the slippery slope as I was on set a couple of times and dreaded the ultimate outcome.
Now whats a big budget? Millions? Lucky to get without contractible obligations to the potential funders. I fear more that such obligations might take the film in a direction you're likely to hate.
Now great actors, that's not in debate and I agree with you 100%. The subject of budget is always a dodgy one

ooo what a wonderful opportunity for you! Congratulations!
My input towards a proper period WOTW would be simply to not drift too far from the source material. Keep the costuming historically accurate, keep the accents believable, try to use the actual locations if possible. If not possible, then don't skimp on the art team. The set design could make or break the film.
As for special FX, do not skimp there either. A cheesy fighting machine or crappy blue screen with visible seams will ruin the illusion and make the film a mockery.
Above all, stay true to the orignal story. If not yourself, then hire a competant screenplay adapter to turn the book into a script.
Everything you need to make this work is in the orignal novel. As long as you stay close to the source, you have a shot.
Good luck! I look forward to seeing it someday!

Well, good luck ;D I'll be looking forward to it.
Personally I'm not too concerned about being completely faithful to the novel, like setting it in nineteenth century London. I would have thought finding costumes and locations to make that convincing would be incredibly costly and time consuming. I don't know how you'd do it without a large budget but I guess other film makers have created really convincing 'worlds' before with really very little. But anyway, so long as the major characters, events, themes, and message stay more or less the same it's okay by me ;D Oh, and that the actors aren't so wooden you could make a dinner table out of them ;D

I don't understand how I only just noticed this now. I wish you luck with this, for it is by no means an easy undertaking. The only thoughts I have for this is that it should be made as faithful to the book as possible. Beyond that I have no real other ideas. Good luck with all this!

Last week a team of amateurs released a 'Lord of the Rings' mini movie called 'The Hunt for Gollum' it is quite a remarkable piece of work, it's only 38 mins long well written and quite well acted, costumes and props are excellent and the camera work and special effects are impressive. I have heard they did all of this on a budget of £3000 (I may be wrong here) But it just goes to show what can be achieved if your team is enthusiastic and dedicated. So good luck with your WotW project.

The only thoughts I have for this is that it should be made as faithful to the book as possible. This is a given however, as Hine's filmed already showed, a complete a 110% faithful adaption could be more of a hinderence than a help. That said I am paying close attention to How Jeff Wayne handle both the brother and narrator's story

First: Good Luck
Second: make it as faithful to the book, because you can't do another 2005 movie.
Third: it is your project, so you decide, just follow your feelings.
I wish you all the luck you need, when a project like that is in working it is awsome, and when you see the result it will be AWSOME

MGM, a few questions if you don't mind -
Are you anything to do with Metro Goldwyn Mayer, or are you a small amateur company?
If not - what does MGM stand for?
Have you any experience in making any films or tv?
Are you a fan of the book?
What "piece" did you do with Todd Mcfarlane?
Have you had contacts with any big names in the film making business [ apart from Todd Mcfarlane ]?

1: No on both counts
2: 20 years in TV, mainly documudrama
3: I interviewed him and watched part of his production for spawn, I did no piece with him, would rather not

Slightly abrupt reply though I have to say as you missed 2 of the questions about whether you're a fan of the book and what MGM stands for? I don't want to come across like I'm saying that there's no way you could do justice to the book but after the other amateur disaster/s that we've had and what one of them said about being in the tv and film making business for years I can't help being a bit sceptical. Let's have a bit more info MGM if you can.
