That short shot of the fighting machine left me unable to do anything but drool like Homer Simpson contemplating a doughnut. I can't wait for a test shot of the Thunder Child scene.

Very, VERY impressive indeed.
Out of interest, how much has it cost you and how much have you done todate?

Many thanks for the positives! I'll try and be brief! I started this work as therapy to aid my recovery after watching that hollywood movie about aliens that travel through space using lightening.( !!*!!??). I have spent since last october crossreferencing everything in the novel plus trawling the net for what people consider to be right and wrong about the movies and artwork. As I have said in the "Ultimate Fighting machine" thread, it is very difficult to tick ALL the boxes for a start and even more difficult to tick them and not make a tripod look daft in todays eyes. Retro alien technology for the 21st century. My company is currently very small, but working on three projects, one of which is a feature, so hopefully by the time I have finished the SFX work, either MGM or us will be in a position to start on live action and pull the whole thing together. The trailer on youtube is as much as I wish to show yet (there is a great deal more) but I have put wallpapers up of the Fighting Machine and the Thunderchild wips. steveas.deviantart.com/gallery/On the subject of time and cost, I can currently assemble the following shots fully. "The destruction of Shepperton Church"( yes it is St Nicholas'church complete with bells, clock and stairs etc)","The Thunderchild saves the Steamer", "The martian cylinder sequences",and a fair number of "dead London" shots.I have also built and rigged around 200 Victorians from little old ladies to sailors and working men to street urchins to repopulate the ships and streets. The work is probably worth around 12 grand. If you are interested I can put all the making of stuff up in a blog? Hope this is of interest. kind regards!

A blog would be great, Thanks for the wallpapers, your FM looks perfect I couldn't think of anyway to improve it, but your Thunder Child only has one funnel not two was there a reason for that? (just thought I'd say that before anyone else did ;D) Again I think this is looking great, I must have watched that short, that Very short footage about 30 or 40 times, I really hope something comes of this, Keep up the good work.

Cheers Lonesome! yup you are absolutely right. That render of the TC was done a short while ago, just before I re-read ( for the umpteenth time ) the Thunderchild sequence and realised that I would have to rebuild the superstructure aft of the funnel to fit the second one in. It was a Homer moment.. I will put up a blog because everyone here has already influenced what I have done and I will get honest and hugely biased opinion as to what works! I will now try and figure out how to post images here!...now then....er..... [/img] nope...er...lol

Those are great. I agree with LC, the tripod seems perfect and I wouldn't try to improve on it any more. Also, if you want to upload images to here, you'll need to first use something like photobucket or imageshack. You'll have to upload it to one of those, then get the link and wrap it in the image tags. [img]<link to image>[/img]
Can't wait to see more!

I believe this is what you had in mind. If its not what you wanted, I'll remove it. Commandingtripod you don't need to upload to another site like photobucket, every image on the net has to have a URL address. :)To do it yourself, simply right click on your chosen image, select; copy image URL, from the drop down menu and past the image address in between the [ img ] ------- [ /img ] where I've put the dotted line.

Incredible looking models and trailer! Your rendering quality is excellent.
Your FM reminds me a great deal of another brilliant CG artist, name of TroC. Any influence or bearing? Also, (geek that I am) I'm rather curious as to what your rendering on. Are we talking SGI or anything like Xeon based systems?
Hope I'm not being too inquisitive. Again, fantastic looking work!! Please keep us posted.

I have a confession to make. When I first read this thread, I regarded it with much doubt as to its success. I would like to take this moment to announce that I was wholeheartedly wrong about every single bit. One word summarizes this work. Superb.
The Tripods are magnificent, the Thunder Child as accurate as can be (myself being a naval historian as a hobby) and the trailer was truly stunning! I've joined the others in saying we can't wait to see more.
And looking at the Tripod, why it looks like it's actually there. I can't see any hint of CGI in it, except for how shiny it is. I don't want to be rude or controlling in any regard, but you may want to have the tripod a tiny bit darker in colour. Well, I think so anyway. Shiny or not, it still looks like it's physical.
