I found this little bit of info about the falling meteor at the end... It’s very rare that a sequel does not get drawn into backstory and origins. What do we know there?… The last couple of shots of Cloverfield return to the footage that’s being recorded over - To Rob and Beth at Coney Island. In the background, you can just catch a large dark object plummeting through the sky, into the ocean. In other words - the first footage of the monster’s arrival? No, not the monster. J.J. Abrams has said “The concept for the monster is simple. He’s a baby. He’s brand-new. He’s confused, disoriented and irritable. And he’s been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years.” What you see falling is a satellite, and it’s the recovery of that which awakens the beast… Found on... www.movie-moron.com/?p=126

As long as they lose the shaky cam I'm in. One thing I was left with after Cloverfield was a wish to know where the monster came from.

'Cloverfield' was a very fun monster flick. It had some very disturbing stuff in it too (poor Marlena). The special-effects were quite astounding and I liked the 'Blair Witch Project' angle it took. As for a sequel, it could be good, but I wouldn't mind if 'Cloverfield' stayed a stand-alone film.

but I wouldn't mind if 'Cloverfield' stayed a stand-alone film. Unfortunately that type of film doesn't exist any longer, every film that comes out nowadays is classed as a cash cow and some form of sequel is always squeezed out of it, and usually there is no sense in it and absolutely no reason or need to do so. Such a shame. oh and yup I forgot to look at the dvd again! doh!
