I saw this film today and im sad to say i wasnt that impressed. Dont get me wrong, it wasnt a bad film, its the usual popcorn muncher full of action bad jokes and visuals. All of which was very well done.
This film for me suffered on two levels.
One: Its a Michael Bay film so the pacing and editing of the film travels at the speed of light. However hes gone beyond warp on this one and gone no where any editing has gone before. The action and pace is so fast its awkward at times to know whats going on, maybe im getting old but this film moved like a greyhound on acid.
Point 2: Advertising. No not the usual advertising in film by the usual sponsors but the advertising by all the car manufacturers in the proceeding year that thought it was cute to have dancing, skateboarding, transforming cars in ALL of their adverts. So when the actual transformers movie comes out the phrase 'seen it all before' springs sadly to mind.
6/10

I'll watch Transformers when it comes on dvd [ nothing like a few robots battering the crap out of each other and it seems to have had fairly good reviews ] but funny enough - I thought the same thing. That Citroen advert's been on so many times.
That's what also bothers me about War of the Worlds. There's been so many different rip offs, versions of Wells book etc, that when someone finaly does do a decent version - they'll have to try mighty hard to impress.

I'm still looking forward to seeing it. From the trailers, as an action sci-fi blockbuster it looks like it's on the money - I'll keep my fingers crossed though.

Just seen and enjoyed it. I enjoyed it, in fact, more than I thought I would. The pace IS fast and the 2 hour odd running time goes by quite quickly. There's little time with all the frentic action for filler here. Nevertheless, I found it easy enough to follow the plot (such as it is). The geeky male lead is, unusually for that kind of part in this kind of movie, likeable and amusing. The female lead is... likeable. The FX are, as you might expect, incredible, and there are transformations and explosive battle scenes aplenty. Whilst the movie doesn't parody the original series, there are some surprisingly adult (but amusing) sexual references... perhaps this is not a film for the younger children. It is quite a funny film in places, too. All in all, does exactly what it says on the tin. Good no-brainer action and excellent FX. Loses a mark for a huge plot hole (which may well be me being dumb... but I don't think so) concerning Megatron's reason for coming to Earth. But I won't go into that until more people have seen it. 7/10

I saw it the theater when it opened. No, it's not the big Oscar winner this year or anything, but I liked it.
Let's put it this way: it's a giant frakkin' robot movie! it doesn't get any better than that really. I got pretty much what i expected from this film. it was worth seeing in the theater.
and the big thing for me is that the Autobots had personalities. i was so afraid they wouldn't talk, or that their characters wouldn't have any personality.
And hey..optimus Prime, baby!!! good stuff...

Saw this over the weekend and yes have to agree - it's a great all action blockbuster with intense action and awesome special effects. It's not going to win any oscars (apart from maybe for the effects), but who cares??? It was great fun and the acting and story was actually decent enough to hold the whole film together.

I saw this last night.
What can I say? It's loud, fast paced, action packed, often funny, loud, short on story and it's got giant robots giving hell. Who could want more in a summer blockbuster?!
I rather enjoyed it.
Can't agree about the plot hole re Megatron though- it seemed to be explained in the opening narration.
I could criticise the transformations as being a little over complicated- there seem to be more moving bits during the transform than on the robot/vehicle and lets face it- the robots are bigger than they are when disguised. But- it's not a film for being overcritical, I reckin. Just enjoy the show!
Did I mention that it's loud?
Thought so.

I thought it was excellent fun, and the teenage leads likable, and the script witty. Crumbs, and normally I hate Michael Bay films as well. Glad to see we're still keeping our pattern on disagreeing about films, Rusti!

i saw this when i was in alaska this summer. it is basically what it is supposed to be... the cartoon, but live action with hellacious CG. although i do agree that it kind of whizzed by, and parts of it were hard to keep up with. example... when barricade was chasing bumblebee, i just didn't have any clue wtf had just happened by the time the chase was over.
it was a movie for kids. some of the jokes and situations were lame... that is, geared towards kids. all in all, it is what it is and it succeeded at bringing the essense of the cartoon into a live action movie.
a bit too long though, and not nearly enough megatron. or starscream, for that matter.

yea, right? Starscream was always a favorite of mine. Maybe he'll be a major player in the sequel....

I guess it's a foregone conclusion that there will definitely be a sequel then? Not sure that would be wise. It was a decent action flick, but don't think they could get more milage out of it without making it go stale pretty quickly.
