I thought I'd start up a little section for us all to do a little self promoting! Those of you who have got their own websites etc can post them up on here, so we can all see what each of us are up to in the real world. Here's my lot - www.myarcades.info - free online flash games website www.theinternetlibrary.info - online e-book resource site www.thekingofamerica.co.uk - that book thing that keeps getting mentioned...

I think people should know what my site is by now, as I promote it at every tiny opportunity. We are Orkney Movie Group, an amateur filmmaking group based on the Orkney Isles. www.orkneymoviegroup.co.uk

Looking good. Whilst I'm obviously interested in the WotW game, I see you are doing a Cold War: Europe one, too. What form will that one take? As you may know, I'm fascinated by the Cold War so you have my interest piqued!

Excellent. It will take the form of a 'turn-based war game'. So for example, on your turn, you build troops, move troops around and try and capture enemy land. There are four sides in the game (America and NATO Vs Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact) and the setting is 1980's. It's nearing completion so I should have it up soon enough. Edit:Here's a sneak peek not avalible any where else (Not even my own web site ). -Sorry about the water marks all over it, but it's not yet avalible for download so I don't want people ripping my game board off and claiming it's theirs before I can say otherwise. Before any one points out that France had left the military structure of NATO prior to 1980, I know. I'm still currently trying to decide wether I should leave France as the HQ, or wether I should 'evacuate' the NATO leaders to Canada.

If the Soviets had invaded West Germany (as was) before the nuclear exchange started (as it probably would have in those circumstances...eventually), France would indeed have been very vulnerable. It probably all depends on your game scenarios as to how feasible France is as a NATO base. As you point out, France had left NATO by that point and kicked the Americans out, with their nuclear arsenal, which is why we Brits would have gotten the shitty end of the stick if it had all kicked off. God bless Maggie and Ronnie. But that was the real world. In a realistic, dire Cold War scenario, it's hard to think of somewhere in the Northern hemisphere that could have been called 'safe', really. I'll be really interested to find out how the conflict begins in your game and what the rules are for how it should run. I should probably wait and see, I guess.. Hurry up!

True. My game invovles no nuclear weapons (luckly ) - my main thought was how quickly France might fall. If the Soviets/Warsaw Pact managed to take France, then NATO couldn't recieve income nor build any troops - thus grinding them to a halt. I might leave France as the HQ of NATO for now me thinks.

Well... it's good as a 'what if' game. No nukes? Not even any tactical battlefield weapons? Fair enough. Then it's just East Vs West with the gloves off. That makes it more interesting, I suppose.

I decided I wouldn't have nuclear weapons because how would I run them? Each weapon kills off a certain amount of troops or everything in that sector?
I suppose it's possible - I'll think about it.
My only thought (And main fear) is that it could simply turn into a massive nuclear show down with players doing nothing but buying nuclear weapons and holding onto what they've got.
If I give either side any weapons the natural choice would be to nuke West/East Germany (Which was the plan anyway I believe) and clear the way through right at the start of the game. I was looking more towards a conventional war with stratigic planning and tactical thinking ahead coming over a massive nuclear strike.
Although Nerfy I will admit that you've got me thinking on the matter.

Well, my thinking is that the Cold War(s) pretty much always had the bomb hanging over them (as it were). Maybe you could strike a compromise. The leadership of both sides are not stupid enough to launch full strikes but are willing to use tactical nukes on the battlefield if need be. Or not. If you want to state, though, that that doesn't happen, or make nuclear weapons an unviable option (for whatever reason), then wholely conventional war is possible. It's your game... us players will have to go with how you make it!
