Jesus, it's gone up to 31. Poor bastards.
That makes it the worst mass shooting in US educational/workplace history.
Can't really think of anything to say. I'd say something about my gun control politics, but I hate commenting on such things during and in the near aftermath of such events. I only hope the toll doesn't rise further, and that more programs are put into place to monitor and help students on edge and to help put an end to the destructive social cliques of the American education system.
Thoughts are with the campus and the families.

Oh dear.
What drives people to do these things.

It's as selfish as it gets; suicidal maniac wants to pop his own clogs, but decides to take out a load of innocent people with him. I hope the bastard rots in hell.

It's just horrendous. People are driven to take their own lives for many reasons, but to take 31 other innocent people with you just beggars belief.
EDIT - 33 seems to be the final death toll. Unbelievable.

I wonder what Charlton Heston and the rest of the pro-guns apes have got to say..?

I'm sure they're washing their hands, even as we speak.
Awful, awful news- but not particularly shocking any more...

Yep, washing their hands is exactly what they're doing! I saw one guy saying that - get this - "if all the students had guns then they could have defended themselves". Whilst that may be true to a certain extent - these NRA people and gun manufacturers must take some responsibility. Do they really want to have a college campus where everyone carries guns? They're a disgrace.

What an utterly horrendous and sad loss of life and and potential. I own two firearms, they are not simiautomatic. Nonetheless they are very lethal. And I think that's where the ploblem lies. Anything you can carry around utterly concealed that squeezes off 16-18 rounds of death as fast as you can pull the trigger is a menace I think Eddie has always said it the best. “And the National Rifle Association says that, "Guns don't kill people, people do,” but I think the gun helps, you know? I think it helps. I just think just standing there going, "Bang!" That's not going to kill too many people, is it? You'd have to be really dodgy on the heart to have that…” My take, any fierarm that holds more than 6 or seven 7 charges is a killingdevice. Not a hunting or home defense device. Just my opinion. The NRA needs to come to it's senses and take a hard look at what has happened and what is likely to come should their attitude not change...

It would make perfect sense to have 20,000 students with raging teenage hormones and mood swings that naturally come to people of that age while they find their place in the world to be all armed with firearms! It would turn into the campus into a turkey shoot! Are those NRA people for real? Fucking idiots (pardon my french!).

I'm sort of in the middle regarding guns. i come from a family that used to do a lot of target shooting, plus a lot of military.
Guns are an inanimate object. Its a stupid human that takes the gun, loads it, takes the saftey off and aims it. Banning guns is like. 'A man has knocked down 10 kids using a truck, weve decided threrfore to ban all cars' After all a stupid human climbs behing the wheel, starts it, loads it with petrol and aims it.
I do agree that owning a gun is woefully easy in the US. A simple, background check. One month cooling off period. yeah right. Should be six months after ordering the weapon you get it, then another six months maybe a year before you can order another weapon. NO assault rifles or SMGs. WTF do people want assault rifles for. maybe a single shot version for hunting perhaps but not the AK's or M16's you can get.
My family was well pissed off when they banned guns after Dunblane. We used them sensibly enjoyed them and because of one stupid dickhead that the police couldn't spot (the signs were all there he was a nut) ruined it for everyone else and above all 16 kids were killed. I know im in the minority here.
Richard B above has got it right. Kids under 21 with rampaging hormones should not have acess to weapons in school. Sorry the NRA are out of order with that one.

I agree you get a small minority of nut jobs that spoil what could be a perfectly sensible sport for many others. I've done target shooting, clay pigeon and live pigeon shooting in the past and it is an enjoyable and rewarding sport. It is also a viable option for pest control in certain circumstances.
A total ban is not needed - there needs to be strick background checks and monitoring along with a lot of restrictions on what guns you are allowed and who is allowed one and when they are allowed one and the authorities should be able to instigate swift measures to take them off people who start showing on the radar as a possible risk.
Obviously all that is fraught with problems, but its got to be better than maintaining their liberal gun laws as they currently stand.

I largely agree with what both hoops and richard said but to be honest I don't think people should be allowed guns to go hunting even. I've nothing against clay pigeon shooting or olympic sports etc but thousands of animals for a start are maimed each year or die agonising deaths and I have to say I find that disgusting too. And I don't think kids in this country should be allowed to buy air rifles. You should only be allowed guns in some sort of regulated club.
Anyway, this South Korean guy was obviously a ticking time bomb - exactly the reason why there needs to be much tougher rules to buy a gun. Yes he could have made a bomb or used his car to mow people down but guns make mass killing so much easier than most other things.

Hunting should only be carried out under strict licence and then only for people who are actually going to eat what they shoot. There are still thousands of people who hunt the likes of rabbit, grouse, pigeon ligitimately for food (both trapping and shooting). I don't see anything wrong with that. We are meat eaters and if someone is prepared to shoot some of what they eat, then that at least shows some grip on mother nature. There are far too many people in this day and age who eat till they get grossly obese without any understanding where their food comes from or what it means to kill, catch or grow your own food.
