Well this is it. Probably the only way to stop incidents like this totally is to eliminate civilian gun owbership. But, this would be against some nations constitutions (and therefore unworkable without major changes) and, it could be argued, that ordinary citizens would not be able to defend themselves from those who get the weapons illegally. Also, some of these people can always find other weapons with which to create havoc. Maybe we have to look at how society is changing. How can people like this be created more and more often? There are many very difficult questions we should all be asking ourselves about all this. i agree nerfy now the thing of it is coming up with a solution may be the easy bit , enforcing it is another matter i must give this some further thought and come back to it as a lot of questions are going through my mind at the mo and i may post them here or better still run them by another mod to see if suitable to post

Post away when you are ready, Steann. I started this topic. It's emotive, but it's a serious issue now.

agreed again nerfy it is a serious issue now i'll post me questions tomorrow night and if any of the mods feel any is unwise so to speak please feel free to mod me i won't mind o.k. here we go for one i'm not going to pick any country in particular as the issue raised here is global as for those caught in possession of an illegal gun what would be a reasonable punishment/sentence ? for those who have used a gun in a crime what would be a reasonable punishment/sentence ? should life in prison mean life ? are the laws outdated ? i.m.o. yes ( they were suitable for the times in which people lived way back when ) should laws be changed in order TO protect law abiding citizens ? again yes i.m.o. it does seem to me at the times the criminal is " rewarded " for their crimes by the time a case comes to court which can take 3 , 6 or 12 months THAT time is taken of a sentence then with "good " behavior early release as for ASBO's are they seen as a " badge of honor " among those who get them ? it seems to me at times ASBO's are given out for the least little thing which maybe a fine may be enough ? more police on the beat ? employ people to do the paperwork police officers seem to get landed with ? should those caught doing graffiti be made repaint what they destroyed just to show them the work that went into painting up a place ?

It's my turn to think about this some tonight. Brain is frazzled. I'll get back to you on this, if I may.
