In all my 2.5 years of WOTW artwork searching, I've seen a lot of threads about peoples' favorite tripod designs. I've decided to do something new: let's show the designs we scoff at. Note: NONE of these posts are intended to be insulting in any way whatsoever. To kick off this new idea, I'm showing the designs I don't like. drzeus.best.vwh.net/wotw/other/omni2.jpgOH MY GOD! IT'S MUTANT ROOSTERS! AND THEY'RE PACKING HEAT!!!! ;D ;D ;D Probably the worst design ever. The look positivly, humaniod This one really isnt that bad, it's kinda inconic. But the sparkleys are a bit confusing ;D Blech. Looks very confusing, too busy, and the Tripods look like fat guys ;D This one's actually one of my faovirte, because it's soo hillarious! It looks so, 30's ;D

No, no, no. You aren't even *close* to the all-time worst professionally published Tripod illo. Behold! Actually, I kinda like the "Classics Illustrated" version. Not my favorite, but I don't consider it a bad one.

I don't see what's so bad about that one.

I don't see what's so bad about that one. LOL......but Relyt...........what are you like! First off congratulations on gathering a neat collection of minging great Tripod naffness in the Xtreme.......but................what the flip are the Roger Dean tripods doing in there? I know they're not totally accurate to the books description but they're still a bloody good design and at least they look like they could be a real machine - plus the pictures are great! And then the icing on your otherwise beautiful cake of tripod bad taste...............you don't see what's so bad about the ping pong ball on straws that Lensman posted. WTF? ?? Excuse me having a small chuckle to myself! ;D

but................what the flip are the Roger Dean tripods doing in there? Beacuse they are a horrible, clanky, ugly design! Ive hated that design since I saw it first time and I think it deserves a place in this thread without a doubt.

I think a person's taste in Tripod designs derives from the very first one they see. The first I saw was the Spielberg one back in 2005 (back when I thought the book had the '53 machines). So therefore I like the ones that have a slightly organic touch like the Spielberg, Jeff Wayne, and others. The Roger Dean is the opposite of what my taste is. No doubt, the picture quality is simply amazing but I just really don't like the design. So call me picky if you like, but everyone is different and no two people are not on fire.

Well I can understand different tastes to a certain extent and if you don't like em you don't like em but surely you must admit though that the others Relyt posted are in a totally different crapiness league to Deans tripods? The others look as if they've been drawn by a 5 year old child with some crayons but at least Deans tripods [ whether you like the design or not ] look like they could be real machines.

You could be right there [ to some extent anyway ]. I think the first tripods that I saw were the Wayne ones but there again those 2 green eyes always bothered me as even when I was young I remember thinking they looked cartoonish. I remember looking at the paintings and thinking those tripods would look so much better without the bug eyes [ I liked the recent 'Hulks ass eyes' re-design by Envious Eyes even less ]. I think the next ones I saw were the Roger Dean ones [ apart from a fleeting glimpse of other ones like the Correa ones here and there ] and I remember looking at those Dean pictures thinking that would be a great film. I think stick a white metal type basket, some puffs of green smoke coming from the joints and some rope like tentacles on there and they'd look great and pretty accurate to the books description. Also, if you look at the Dean tripods they do actually look a bit organic - in fact more organic looking [ with their textured armour ] than most of the tripod designs out there. They look really alien to me.

The first Tripod designs I ever saw were the Jeff Wayne ones, I always thought they were cool but not very realistic. It would look quite stupid if they used those in a live-action movie. Same goes for the Correa designs, which look terrific. The Tripods in Steven Spielberg's film were awesome, though they would look weird in a Victorian setting. Another design I like because of the simplicity is the one by Edward Gorey. So my favorite would be a mix between Spielberg's and Gorey's Tripod.
