I Threw out my hoover the other day and a load of old junk. Remember when you were a kid and you always thought the hoover handle was a ray gun. Well in a fit of boredom and with a pile of other junk i threw together this: (click for full size) Stage 1 Blaster: I pit it together with elastic bands to get the shape. There are old hoover parts, old cam tripod parts even after shave bottle tops. Next is stage 2. gluing it all together and drilling holes for some screw points. Stage 3: then i plan on using some of that rubber sealant tape around the lower brace bit and around the handle then to fill in all the joins with some modelling filler. Stage 4: the handle is hollow, im toying with the idea of putting a battery pack up there for some LED lights for the rear. Stage 5: Painting it. Its either going to be chrome or metallic black. What do you think, any ideas comments? ;D

That's pretty damn cool! Reminds me a bit of Deckard's gun from Blade Runner. As steann already suggested, a black/chrome combo on that with a few LEDs would look ace!

Its coming along I found a small triple torch tube thing and it will make a wonderful combat sight. Really make the gun look like Harrison fords one.
I got all the bits now. time to work out how to fasten it all together.

I got all the bits now. time to work out how to fasten it all together. would fiberglass mesh tape help to join the seams ? and at least hopefully could be painted to blend in ?

That's a really great idea. Definitely much more fun than just throwing out the old hoover handle! I'd be interested to see how it turns out.

Now up to Stage 2 Well i couldnt find any of that fiberglass mesh. Ive had to resort to using Loctite all purpouse glue. Its working but its slow stuff to dry. Works a treat. Ive depeloped a cunning idea, using different thickness cable wire and using it in strips to reinforce areas that need to be shored up more. Ive decided to go against putting lights in it for one main reason: realism. The enemy would see you coming in the dark and besides from Battlestar to star Wars to Farscape you dont see lights on the weapons. I may try to track down some of that furoesent paint stuff for certain parts like you get on modern guns for the sights. Its coming along. Its heavy though! All that ABS plastic and rubber parts! Its looking a lot different than the origonal pic above! You got the main hoover handle. The barrel is a cap from something or whatever. The Rail on the top is from an old cam tripod that naff. As is the trigger and the long brace at the bottom. The two wings things either side of the brace with the long holes in are from a computer case i chucked out. Once the gluey bits are all dry ill scrape the exess away before i add more dressing to the brace and the grip. It really does look like something out of Farscape of something!
