Hey Nerf, don't give up, i'm waiting and hoping for it to get through and get my copy. Not having read the draft i didn't have much to say in this thread, but with all good critics you are receiving it certainly must be much more than just a decent work. Can you give us some cues on the plot?

Malf, Sorry for the delay in replying. Broadband problems etc... The first draft (as it was written, off pat and in serial form, basically) is still here on Rob's old board.... robk.proboards13.com/index.cgi?board=fanfic&action=display&thread=1142187352&page=1I have prepared a second draft since, with quite a few amendments and also additional and expanded scenes (the finished novel weighs in at around 70,000 words) and this is the one I am hoping, at some point, to get published.

Well, I've come to a bit of an impasse with this now. Not sure what to do next. I have had an offer of help getting in touch with the estate of H.G. in order to gain permission to publish in the UK. Trouble is it depends on getting publishers interested first. The agents I have approached so far have passed... so it makes me wonder if it is ready for publishing at all now. Gah! I guess I need to revisit it again (it's been a couple of months since I last read it through) to see if I can see if there's anything glaringly wrong with it. At least I can probably get it published in the States without too much trouble. There are plenty of places that will publish your work for you. But I really wanted to do it in this country so it could be sold in bookshops here... and with some degree of official permission. It's looking like that now may not be possible. I need to think about how to proceed... if I think it's worth it.

Bless ye! I hope it will see book form, but I think persuading publishers here to take it on is going to be a trial. They don't seem interested in sequels and such these days. Have you seen some of the stuff in the booker lists? Or even worse, the bestseller charts. If you aren't a celeb chef or a Beckham, you've got no chance of selling a book! You're probably right. If it does get published and sells a few copies then it might get a bit of interest. But still I'm unsure.

Absolutely. I'm sure one publisher will have the balls to take it on. It's just a case of beavering away with it.

Keep trying, and i really hope for you that you will be able to publish it in UK, i am sure peoples would like to have the chance to read something like this in UK, to. Dont abandoned anything you want to do, one day all that will be in the past, and your book will be selling.

Well. I guess it's time (after a break for various personal reasons) to start whoring my shit out. I have a sort of a strategy... such as it is... so we'll see how it goes.

I'm all for getting your book published, no matter how you go about it, Nerf. It's a very well written and imaginative work. Either published by a house or your own hand, I'd gladly buy a copy.
